MSF Basic Rider Course
Course fee is $225/person---check the home page for possible discount opportunities
The Basic Rider Course (BRC) is a 12-15 hour program, which provides classroom and actual motorcycle operator training in a controlled, off-street environment.
The BRC was developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) as a complete riding program for the beginning rider. The BRC course provides beginning motorcyclists with the basic mental and physical riding skills necessary to minimize risk on the street.
The BRC is taught by coaches that are MSF certified and is approved by Mississippi's Department of Public Safety as a waiver to the motorcycle road test.
STUDENTS under 18 need to have parental signature!!
Topics covered in the BRC include:
- Introduction to motorcycling
- Protective gear / What to wear
- Controls such as the clutch and brakes
- Pre-ride inspection of your motorcycle
- Preparing to ride your motorcycle on the class range
- Street strategies to avoid trouble and stay safe
- Driving and riding impairments such as use of alcohol and drugs
- How to maneuver your motorcycle
- Avoiding obstacles
- Lane changes
- Passing
- Riding at night
- Collision avoidance skills
- Swerving
- Special situations
- Carrying a passenger or cargo
- Dealing with tire failure
- Dealing with animals
And other topics, all included to increase your motorcycle riding enjoyment and safety.
MoToSteps provides motorcycles, DOT helmets and shatter proof eye protection (loaner) and course materials.
Students MUST provide their own riding gear:
over the ankle boots,
- jacket or long sleeve shirt,
- long pants, and
- full fingered gloves (NO HOLES in any mentioned gear).
- Students may supply their own helmet and shatter proof eye protection so long as they meet D.O.T. standards and must show proof of DOT standards.
The BRC is both mentally and physically demanding. Please be sure that your calendar is clear, you are well rested and free of distractions during your course. Perfect attendance and proper riding gear are mandatory. Failure to attend ANY training session (classroom or riding), failure to have proper riding gear as outlined above, or showing signs of intoxication or under the influence of drugs that results in unsafe behavior will result in dismissal from the course and the cancellation policy will apply.
Skills Enhancement Training
Training fee is:
$ 75.00 for Former MoToSteps Students
$100.00 for a 4 hour session.
A 4 hour program designed to assist with a particular skill a rider may be experiencing on the road. This training is designed to aid in gaining confidence with riding skills and is taught in a controlled, off-street environment. The entire training is performed on the riding range with no classroom time. This training is not designed to take the place of the BRC or ERC and no completion card will be provided at the end of the training.
You must have your own bike with a valid license and a waiver must be signed.

The Group Riding Course
Course Fee is $75.00 per individual, $100.00 club fee + 25.00 per person.
(Registration form & payment must be received no later than the Thursday prior to a scheduled group riding class.)

This 3-6 hour class is a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) training module and is used by Harley Owners Group and others for training their Road Captains that lead group rides. The course covers the, "Need to Know", information about riding in a group and presents the steps needed to ensure a safe, fun, and successful group ride. You will learn about ride preparation, standards for organization of the ride, and important knowledge such as proper formations in complex traffic situations.
The class is divided into a 1 hour classroom section and then 1.5 to 3 hour ride. There will be an opportunity for each student to lead the ride.
- Fill your tank before the class;
- You must be able to present a valid endorsement, insurance, and motorcycle should pass our basic pre-ride inspection;
- Bring enough money for lunch…we stop for lunch during the ride;
Students MUST provide their own riding gear:

DOT approved helmet with shatter proof eye protection or face shield.
MSF Experienced Rider Course
Course fee - $85.00/person w/ passenger add $35.00

ERC OUTLINE:
5 to 6 hour course
All range-work - no classroom
Open to licensed motorcyclists (Under age 18 will require the notarized signature of a parent or guardian – contact us for a copy of the paperwork!)
ERC exercises are performed on your own motorcycle.
The Experienced Rider Course (ERC) was developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. Even if you've been riding for some time, there's always something new to learn. Increasing numbers of seasoned riders are flocking to the half-day (5-8 hours) Experienced Rider Course to hone their skills and fine-tune the mental skills needed for survival in traffic.
You'll discuss with your peers how to balance the mental and physical aspects of safe riding, manage risk, increase visibility and optimize your lane position. The Experienced Rider Course also covers protective gear, rider responsibility, motorcycle inspection and care, the effects of alcohol and other drugs on riding.
Your passenger can take the ERC with you. They will gain a better understanding of “why-you-do-what-you-do” while riding and learn techniques for riding more safely “two-up.”
You must wear protective gear as follows:
- DOT approved helmet & eye protection
- Full-fingered gloves
- Long sleeved shirt or jacket
- Long pants
- Sturdy, over-the-ankle footwear
Rain gear is optional. We do ride if it rains.
Class size is limited to 6 students
Qualifications for this course are:
- Be a competent, licensed motorcycle operator with one year riding experience (recommended minimum), or have completed a Basic Rider Course and have three months riding experience.
- You own a motorcycle or have a motorcycle to ride for the course and possess proof of insurance (you will need to provide your motorcycle registration and insurance card and your bike must pass the Rider Coaches’ pre-course safety check)
Required to Participate:
- Motorcycle must meet all requirements for street operation Proper registration & license for motorcycle A safety inspection (T-Clock) by the course instructors.
- Proof of insurance must be presented
- Written permission from the owner if borrowed, for use in the course and the proof of insurance
- An unrestricted class "M" endorsement on your unexpired driver's license.
- Safety Gear must be worn while riding during the class---D.O.T. approved (the sticker on the back) Helmet (Loaner helmets are available), Eye protection (i.e. face shield, goggles or glasses), Over the ankle boots with rubber sole...low heeled are wise, Long sleeved shirt or jacket, Long non-flared pants made of sturdy material, jeans are good. Full fingered gloves. Rain gear is optional. We do ride if it rains.
