What You'll Learn

In the Basic RiderCourseSM, you will learn:

  • If you are suited to ride a motorcycle.
  • To have more fun by riding your motorcycle safely.
  • The basics: what to wear, how to start and stop your motorcycle, and motorcycle controls.
  • Street strategies to avoid trouble and stay safe.
  • How to maneuver your motorcycle in tough situations.
Swerving, avoiding collisions, special situations, lane changes, passing, and avoiding hazards.

The Basic RiderCourseSM is a 14 to 15 hour program, which provides classroom and actual motorcycle operator training in a controlled, off-street environment.

No experience is necessary; a good sense of balance is required (you must be able to ride a bicycle).

GENERAL INFORMATION

BEFORE YOU REGISTER FOR A CLASS MAKE SURE YOU READ THE POLICIES, SCHEDULING, FEES & SERVICES, AND COURSE INFORMATION!!

WE URGE YOU TO PURCHASE SQUEEZE BALLS TO EXERCISE YOUR HANDS...THIS WOULD BE A GREAT WAY TO STRENGTHEN YOUR HANDS PRIOR TO THE CLASS!!

Participants of the MoToSteps Training course must meet the following:

The minimum age required to participate in any rider training course is fifteen (15) years of age. If under eighteen (18) years, a parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver prior to any on-bike training

Completing our course would mean that you do not have to take the riding portion of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety motorcycle endorsement test. However, you would still be required to take the written endorsement test. Also you will be eligible for safe rider discounts by those insurance companies that participate in the MSF certified rider training course program.

IF YOU NEED A WEEKDAY CLASS, CONTACT US....WE WILL WORK WITH YOU TO GET A DATE!!!

  • The classroom portion of the course begins at 6:00 pm and ends at 10:00 pm on scheduled Fridays.
  • We return Saturday or Sunday mornings at 7 am for a review and a written test. You must score 80% or better on the written test. After the written test has been graded, everyone will drive to the riding range on Ellis Avenue (less than a mile from the classroom).
  • While on the riding range, every participant will need to wear: helmet with face shield or safety goggles, long sleeve shirt or jacket, gloves, sturdy long pants (no sweat, exercise, or jogging pants), and over the ankle boots made of sturdy material and rubber soles (no UGGS or cloth shoes)
  • We will remain on the range for the remainder of the day minus the lunch break. The same is for Sunday.

We have decreased our class sizes because it gives us the opportunity to provide more individual attention. This means we teach a small group on Saturday and another group on Sunday. The riding date is determined by registration completion date. That is why we suggest that those interested in the course, complete registration early.

The classroom portion is held at our office located at 931 Hwy 80 W Ste 2C-38  (Jackson Enterprise Center) in Jackson.

  • We train on 250 cc Kawasaki Ninjas, Yamaha Virago, and Honda Rebels and have loaner helmets and gloves available, if needed.
  • Also remember that the course is first register, first serve. This means that those who complete registration first are given first opportunity for their course date selection.
  • March thru September are our busiest months, so we suggest that you register early to get the course date you want!!!

WE SIMPLY ASK THAT YOU BRING A POSITIVE ATTITUDE & A WILLINGNESS TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!! If you bring those two things...it will make it so much easier to learn to ride a motorcycle SAFELY!!!
